ABOUT A+
What we do
At A+ Music, you will find a locally-owned and family-operated business eager to meet the needs of music students of all ages. We strive to provide quality music instruction, beginner to intermediate level instruments, and in-house repairs, all in a helpful, family-friendly environment.
We at A+ Music think of ourselves as a music school first and a music retailer second. We provide quality instruction for all ages and most instruments. Most of our floor space is dedicated to lessons, and our teachers are supported by a helpful, friendly and knowledge sales staff devoted to ensuring your experience as a student is as rewarding as it can be.
In addition to lessons, we do provide quality beginner to intermediate level instruments at reasonable prices. And if you need an instrument serviced, we can handle most brass, woodwind, and fretted instrument repairs in-house, saving you both the time and expense of having it shipped out-of-house for servicing.
At A+ Music, we’re never afraid to go the extra mile to help you, our customer. We always strive to be the friendliest, most helpful music store in town.
Atlantic Music, founded by Brian Gatchell, operated at the same location A+ Music can be found now. Atlantic Music was a full-service music store that covered all instrument types as well as lessons and repairs.
In 2001, Brian chose to devote himself entirely to pianos, and split Atlantic Music into three different businesses. Brian retained ownership and continued to operate Atlantic Pianos while his son Allen took over orchestral strings and now operates Atlantic Strings. Brass, woodwinds, fretted instruments, and lessons were sold to Kevin Strang and became A+ Music.
Since its inception, A+ Music has primarily focused on giving quality music instruction for the Melbourne area. In the fall of 2007, the Lenhart family became the 3rd owners of A+ Music when they purchased the business from Robert Ottalagano, its 2nd owner.
Jake Lenhart, the owner of A+ Music, can be found there most afternoons. Children Bridget and Isaac, both of whom are homeschooled in the store, are usually there when Jake is.
The Lenharts reside in West Melbourne with their beloved American Bulldog “Titus”. They are active members of First Baptist Church of Melbourne on Dairy Road. Their favorite TV show is “Top Gear” on BBC America.
Jake grew up in a musical household, as his mother held degrees in Piano and Voice from the University of Pittsburgh. He tends to be a musical dabbler, and has studied saxophone, cello, voice, bass guitar, and electric guitar at different times in his life. He enjoys listening to and performing anything from classical to heavy metal. Jake’s something of a nerd at heart, and avidly reads nearly any nonfiction book he finds.
Bridget is turning out to be a musical dabbler as well, and likes to learn a little about multiple instruments rather than focus on just one. She’s also learned quite a bit about how the business runs, and despite her youth, is trusted to run the cash register and help customers with routine requests.
Isaac has solely devoted his musical energies to studying electric guitar since the opportunity became available to him. Isaac favors playing hard rock. Also, it’s not unusual to find Isaac deftly maneuvering a unicycle around the sales floor during off-peak hours.
